  • Looking for a Good CMM Machine - Any Recommendations?
    B businessworld

I've been researching CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) options for precision inspection work and wanted to get some input from the community.

For anyone unfamiliar, a CMM is used to measure the physical dimensions of a part with high accuracy — commonly used in automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing for quality control.

    Things I'm considering:

    Accuracy and repeatability
    Manual vs. CNC-controlled
Ease of use and software support
    After-sales service and calibration

I came across Sipcon Technologies' CMM Machine while looking around: https://www.sipconinstrument.com/cmm/

If anyone here uses a CMM regularly, I'd love to know which one you'd recommend and why. Thanks in advance!

  • Anyone Using a Melt Flow Indexer for Polymer QC? Sharing What I've Learned
    B businessworld

I've been looking into melt flow indexers for testing thermoplastic materials in our QC lab, and wanted to share some insights and get input from others working with similar equipment.

For those unfamiliar, a Melt Flow Indexer measures the Melt Flow Rate (MFR) and Melt Volume Rate (MVR) of polymers — basically how easily a molten plastic flows under specific temperature and load conditions. This is a critical test for consistency in plastic processing, especially for polyethylene, polypropylene, and other thermoplastic resins.

Here's what I've found matters most when choosing one:

-Compliance with ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133 standards
-Motorized sample cutting for consistent, repeatable results (manual cutting can introduce variability)
-Accurate PID-based temperature control across a wide range
-Digital display with automated timing/calculation to reduce operator error
-Build quality for continuous use in industrial or lab settings

I came across Testronix Instruments' Motorized Sample Cutting Melt Flow Index Tester recently, which covers most of these points. Sharing the link here in case it's useful for anyone comparing options: https://www.testronixinstruments.com/melt-flow-index-tester-motorized-sample-cutting/

Would love to hear from others — which melt flow indexers are you using, and how has accuracy/repeatability been for your applications? Any brands or models you'd recommend or avoid?
