How do I keep my curly hair from tangling so much?
-
Curly hair is prone to tangling since the hair is naturally curled and entangles itself. However, one can minimize tangling by following the below steps regularly.
Avoid tangling: Comb the hair in sections, beginning with the ends and working your way up to the scalp using either a finger or a comb.
Keep your hair moisturized: Dry curls tangle more easily. Use a moisturizer conditioner and consider a leave-in conditioner after washing.
Detangle when damp: Apply conditioner or a detangling product while your hair is damp and slippery. Avoid aggressively combing completely dry curls.
Save your hair at night: Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcover or wear a satin bonnet. A loose pineapple or protective style can also reduce friction.
Avoid excessive manipulation: Constantly touch, brush, or restyling your curls can create knots and frizz.
Deep condition regularly: A deep-conditioning treatment can help improve softness and manageability, especially when your curls feel dry or rough.
Trim damaged ends: Split or rough ends can catch onto neighboring strands and create more tangles.
Be gentle after washing: Instead of rubbing your hair with a regular towel, gently squeeze out extra water with a microfiber towel or soft T-shirt.
If your curly hair are very tight or prone to shrinkage, sectioning your hair before washing and keeping each section gently stretched can make a big difference.
