Is 10,000 km between oil changes too long for an Infiniti in this heat?
-
My lunch break argument with a coworker turned into a bet, so now I am here to find out who is right. I have a 2018 Q50 with about 62,000 kilometers, and I always followed the sticker the dealer put on the windshield, which says to change the oil every 10,000. My coworker drives a similar car and says that is way too long for our weather. He changes his every 5,000 and says the oil turns black and thin much faster when it is this hot, and the stop and go traffic makes it worse. I said the manual knows better than him, but then I pulled out the dipstick last night and the oil looked darker than I expected, even though I only did the last change about 6,000 kilometers ago. Now I feel like I might lose the bet and maybe hurt my engine too. I did some reading and found a page from a workshop in Mussafah about oil changes, which explained what the oil does inside the engine, like cooling, cleaning and keeping the parts from rubbing, and how old oil and a dirty filter can cause trouble over time. It also said the right type matters, not just any oil. That made me wonder if the last place I used even put the correct one, because they never showed me the bottle. Time is my other problem. I work near the industrial area and my break is only one hour, so when I typed Quick Infiniti oil change in ICAD into my phone, I just wanted to know if a proper job can be done in that time or if fast means they skip the filter. Does anyone know how long it really takes if you do it right? Also, is it normal for the oil to look dark early, or does that mean something is wrong? Should I use full synthetic only, or is the semi type fine? And do you always change the filter every time, or every second time like some people say? One more thing, if the shop asks me to bring my own oil, how do I know I bought the right one? Thanks, I will tell my coworker what you all say, even if I lose.
