We are in the process of migrating a client’s store from migrating from woocommerce to shopify as the business has outgrown its existing hosting solution. Although plugin issues, data destruction, and continuous technical maintenance of WooCommerce have created an enormous hassle, my greatest concern is about keeping the organic search traffic and indexation we've been building over the years. When you’re moving thousands of product SKUs, historical customer records, and complex collection structures over to a completely different URL architecture, things can get messy really quickly if you aren't careful.
We are currently in the process of creating an extensive 301 redirect matrix, saving our order data, and performing a canonicals audit so that we can ensure that Google can find our main product pages. Naturally, there would be technical issues with checkout redirects, canonical update paths, and app scripts while migrating. Have any of you done a large migration like this between these two platforms? What issues did you encounter? Did you experience a drop in organic traffic, and how long did it take for you to recover your rankings?
