Why do most digital marketing agency websites feel so incredibly soul-less?
-
I have recently been assigned to find and review vendor partners for our brand's Q4 product launch. I've also spent the last three days looking at multiple vendor portfolios. I'm just curious why so many vendor websites for digital marketing agencies all have similar looks. I find it hard to believe that these types of agencies, who command a premium fee for helping brands "stand out", have all used the same template website. They all have the same dark mode layouts, abstract 3D shapes, and vague headers that say things like "We disrupt paradigms." It tells me absolutely nothing about what they actually do.
When I look at digital marketing agency websites, I’m searching for proof of competency. I am looking for real case studies without any access restrictions along with un-edited, personal, video testimonies/feedback from real clients and honest explanations of how the agency creates its work. It appears that nearly everybody in this industry simply takes a similar piece of information (in order to appear "cool") and uses that to develop their portfolios. What do you think about this practice if you're an agency founder or designer in this forum? Are you intentionally developing your website to match what is currently being done by other people in your field, or are you simply afraid of taking a "creative leap" when designing your own website? Let's talk about what it takes for your portfolio to convert.
